QLDC Swim School now certified Water Skills For Life provider

Media release from the Queenstown Lakes District Council:

Water activities are an important part of summer recreation here in Queenstown Lakes and 1,700 swim school students are receiving the best water safety programme on offer thanks to Queenstown Lakes District Council’s (QLDC) Swim School.

Now certified as a ‘Water Skills For Life (WSFL)’ provider by Water Safety New Zealand, this great news comes just a couple of months after receiving the platinum standard rating for swim schools and is another accolade for QLDC’s Swim School.

Clair Muirhead, swim school manager, said it’s a testament to the hard work put in by swim school teachers over the last few months.

“All of our teachers have been committed to training and improving what we offer as a swim school. The process to become certified has upgraded our abilities as a swim school and the children in the district will benefit from better instruction.”

“The goal of this is to ensure we are supporting children to have a safe lifelong connection with water. Everyone should have this knowledge by the age of 13. They’ll then be in a position to get the most out of summers in Queenstown Lakes and the world!”

QLDC Swim School is offered at both Alpine Aqualand and Wānaka Recreation Centre’s pool. For more information about what’s on offer and to start your child’s lifelong connection to water visit qldc.govt.nz/learntoswim.
