Our upcoming open water swimming events
This is the Southern Lakes Swimming Club’s 2025 to 2026 events calendar. It lists all the events and races we’re organising or attending as a club.
As well as our regular Saturday morning swims, we put on fun events, such as swimming to Pigeon Island on Lake Whakatipu, Queenstown. The list of events and races below is tentative – we’ll update it as we go. As each event draws closer, we’ll let members know what’s happening through the club newsletter, Hivepass app and other channels.
Some events are for members only, so if you’d like to join us for a swim adventure, please join the club.
2025 Events

| 22nd November 2025 | Open Day | The ‘official’ start to the summer swimming season! All welcome. Find out what our club is all about. |
| 29th November | Learn the Lake | Week #1 of our intro to open water swimming series |
| 6th December | Learn the Lake | Week #2 of our intro to open water swimming series |
| 13th December | Learn the Lake | Week #3 of our intro to open water swimming series |
| 20th December | Fun timed swim | Club timed swim – a personal challenge to find your benchmark |
| Sunday 21st December | Solstice/Longest Day swim | Two options: 3am start, 6km swim, Frankton to Queenstown Bay. Or, meet at 8am at Queenstown Bay for a dip or short swim. |
| Thursday 25th December | Christmas Day Dip | 8am – quick dip at our Frankton Swim Lane. Bring festive snacks! |
| Thursday 1st January 2026 | New Year’s Day Swim in Lake Alta | Meet 10:30am at The Remarkables bottom car park. |
| 24th January 2026 | The Ruby | A swim race in Wanaka (club members attending) |
| 8th or 15th February 2026 | Pigeon Island Swim | Members only. Provisional dates (details TBC). |
| 14th March | Swim Rautaniwha | A swim race in Twizel (club members attending) |
| 20th March | Real NZ Whakatipu Legend | A swim race in Queenstown (club members attending) |
| 8th or 28th March | Te Anau Float Plane Adventure Swim | Paid event. Members only. Provisional dates (details TBC). |
| 1st April | April Fools Skinny Dip | Yes, really. No clothes, no phones, no worries. Lake Hayes (details TBC). |
